I. Brief history of school:
Chengzhong Road Primary School is an old school with a history of 110 years, as a window school directly affiliated to the Education Bureau of Jiading District. Now it has 41 teaching classes, with 1,842 students and a faculty of 125 people. They include 6 high school senior teachers, 56 primary school senior teachers, accounting for 63% of all teachers; 67 teachers have undergraduate and above education level, accounting for 71.3% of all teachers; there are 33 young teachers aged below 35 years, accounting for 37.2% of all teachers; and they also include 13 key teachers and discipline leaders at the district and school levels, 25 CPC members, and some with titles of Municipal Gardener, District Top Ten Young Teachers and District Teaching Moral Pacesetters.
In recent years, the primary school has optimized top level design with deepening the school culture connotative construction as the core, focusing on developing, innovating and practicing the featured culture of “dawn enlightening”, to enhance and upgrade the special subject research on upgrading teaching standard and ensure overall implementation of the “quality education” philosophy of the District Education Bureau. The faculty members of the school have worked hard in unity for continual opening up, and achieved a lot. It has got special honors at national, municipal and district levels, students and teachers received awards frequently, making it a high quality school in the eyes of ordinary people. Today, it has been appraised as Harmonious Campus of Shanghai Municipality and code of conduct demonstration school of Shanghai Municipality, both in four consecutive sessions.

III. School features (key items/activities):
Artistic education —— focus of work
It ensures all participation —— every student in the school learns 1~2 artistic skills, and some outstanding —— three main artistic groups are set up (vocal music, dance and drama), a unique pattern of “steady development with activities on Monday, Wednesday and Friday” is adopted, to develop five key artistic items (chorus, dance, folk music, language performance and bamboo carving). There is one art specialty class in every grade, and 18 school level artistic groups, and partnership has established with the Youngsters Activity Center of Jiading District, to steadfastly push forward art education with the teaching resources in the center. With the directions by famous masters and teachers, the art education of the school gained rapid progress, the music group and fine art group of the school have been appraised as excellent teaching and research groups of Jiading District, and the school got the title of district level art featured school once again. Especially in bamboo carving, the school has inherited the excellent culture and art of China with the joint guidance by full-time teachers in the school and engaged experts. With this program, the school has been appraised as national culture training base of Jiading District and excellent Chinese culture and art inheritance school among all secondary and primary schools in the country. In addition, the school also teaches art items of children painting, diary painting, art pottery, ethnic dancing, Latin dancing, campus group dancing, rubber string exercise, 4-stringed Chinese lute, Urhien, Guzheng, saxophone, electronic organ, chorus, and classical ancient poem chanting.
Sunshine sports —— definitely build up the health of students
Badminton and shadowboxing are highly featured sports courses. In 2008, the school was named “badminton designated school of Jiading District”, in the school, featured badminton classes are setup in ladders in all grades, and full-time coaches are invited for better training. After years of efforts, young players have cut a figure in competitions in the city with good scores. Furthermore, the school, with the working idea of “strengthening the construction of featured courses and making a brand for badminton in Chengzhong Primary School”, has organized faculty badminton community and worked out badminton exercise of its own, to better popularize the badminton sport. The Fitness Times of Shanghai Five-Star Sports Channel has interviewed our school for reporting. The school got the good score of Group No. 2 at the Fifteenth Shanghai Youngsters Sports Games.
Shadowboxing is one of the nationwide fitness campaign sports items advocated by the State General Administration of Sports. “Shadowboxing in campus” is a featured campus sports item endeavored by the school. The school has developed shadowboxing courses and worked out shadowboxing teaching plan according to the different activity ability of students in different grades, to ensure that they have rational exercises in both physical agility and skill, so that all teachers and students in the school like it and participate in it, to gradually reach the level of collective performance.
Household and school cooperation —— to join forces in education
Our school has extensively carried out the “micro experience on job” parent course for students. Jobs are windows for children to know the society, containing rich contents of education. The “micro experience on job” has the unique charm of “micro and exquisite content with peculiar experience and deep meaning”. With the bi-directional experience of “parents entering the school and students entering the work place”, students get a window to understand the society, they can go to industrial school workshops to see how work is done, to make recording at radio station, and count money notes in banks …… a series of activities can enlarge the sight of students and enrich their social experience, further arousing the interests and attention of students on surrounding life and objects. Also, “micro experience on job” parent course is also effective makeup to the school course setup, and also brings into play the initiatives of parents to take part in school education activities, so that parents become maker of advance culture in the school.
