I. Brief history of school:
Malu Yucai Joint Middle School, with the original name Malu Middle School, was founded in 1957, and it has been relocated three times. At the end of 1998, the Malu Town Government built new school houses, which were completed and put into service in Sept. 1999, making the school a modernized one with high level at that time. In Aug. 2012, the government invested 23 million yuan for the safety reinforcing project of the school, the school houses took on a new look, with complete specialized classrooms, and the teaching facilities could fully meet the need in teaching. In Aug. 2003, an agreement was reached by the CPC Committee and Government of Malu Town, the Education Bureau of Jiading District and Shanghai Yucai Middle School on running the school jointly, and in Sept. 2003, Malu Yucai Joint Middle School of Jiading District was officially inaugurated.
1957: “Junior Middle School of Malu Commune Jiading County” was established, with the located on the west bank of Hengli River to the south of Malu Town.
1972: The school was relocated to the east of Hengli River to the north of Malu Town, and renamed as “Malu Middle School of Jiading County”.
1988: The school was relocated to 3376 Bao’an Highway
1992: The school was renamed as “Malu Middle School of Jiading District”.
1999: The school was relocated to the south end of Yuying Street, Malu Town.
2003: The school was renamed as “Malu Yucai Joint Middle School of Jiading District”.
2007: The school held activities to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
2008: The school became the “Natinal Culture Training Program Base of Jiading District”, developed the featured course of “bamboo carving” for “bamboo culture”.
2012: The safety reinforcing project was completed, and the school houses took on a new look.
2012: The school was awarded with the honorable title “National Model Unit on ‘Two Basics’” by the Ministry of Education of China
2013: The school was appraised as a new high quality program school of Jiading District.
2014: The school became the calligraphy education experimental school of China Education Society

II. Philosophy of school running
The school has always aimed at fostering qualified graduates “able to learn and cooperate with good physical and mental health”, it has kept on innovating management mechanism, endeavoring to build develop moral education for all students in all aspects and for whole process”, building the “H-O-M-E” course system in an all-round way, studying deeply the classroom teaching of “1234·exploration and cooperation”, to push ahead reform in classroom teaching. It is aimed at building teams of excellent teachers and efficient cadres, and innovating the connotative development road on aspects of school culture construction, teacher team construction and teacher and student examination and appraisal.

The school has developed education in adaptation to the economic and social development of Malu Town, and has fostered large number of qualified graduates for the economic and social development of Malu Town as well as Shanghai Municipality, some of them have become leaders and management professionals of the municipal, district and town level administrations and enterprises and institutions, and many have become outstanding figures in various circles; the school has also laid a solid foundation for students in their further study by training them into qualified junior middle school graduates.
In recent years, Malu Yucai Joint Middle School has further developed into an advanced school in the district, and realized favourable upgrading in four aspects: professional development of teachers, ability of students, teaching standard and student parents satisfaction. In Sept. 2012, the school was awarded by the State Council with the title of national model unit on “Two basic” work.

III. School features (key items/activities)
Since its founding, Malu Yucai Joint Middle School has been adhering to the education philosophy of student development, to foster various professional for the construction of local area. At present, the school has 28 teaching classes, with 955 students and a faculty of 96 people.
Malu Town of Jiading District has a long history of bamboo carving culture, and the fine art teachers in the school are good at teaching bamboo carving, so the school developed “bamboo culture” in the campus, and gradually shaped the campus culture feature with “bamboo culture” as the main and diversified artistic education as subsidiary. In 2006, the school applied for and got approved the national level sub-project “Exploration on bamboo carving creative teaching in Jiading”, and became an experimental unit of national key scientific research projects in the "Eleventh Five-year Plan" period. In Sept. 2007, the school established the first bamboo art gallery in Jiading District at the 50th anniversary of the school, it collected many bamboo carving and fine art works of teachers and students, receiving good appraisal from many leaders, schoolfellows and student parents visiting it. Starting from 2008, the school held bamboo culture feature demonstrations at the municipal, district or town levels every year, expanding the influence of bamboo culture feature development of the school. Today, the school is endeavoring to develop its “bamboo culture” feature on five aspects of bamboo environment, bamboo carving, bamboo poem, bamboo music and bamboo spirit with the theme of “inheriting national culture in education”, so that the school has a better atmosphere of campus culture and more distinctive feature of bamboo carving teaching. On Dec. 13, 2011, the Wei Hui Baopresented the featured development road of the school with a report under the title Comprehending “Bamboo Spirit” by Learning Bamboo Carving. Today, the school has sponsored consecutively the “Tengma Cup” folk artistic works competition and exhibition activities of Jiading District, endeavoring to bring into further play the traditional national culture in the new era.
