Since Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and the Education Department of Cheju Special Autonomous Province of Korea signed the Agreement on Shanghai – Cheju Education Friendly Exchanges in 2006, both parties have carried out friend exchange activities of teachers and students every year. After study by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, in 2016, the Education Bureau of Jiading District was recommended for Shanghai – Cheju Friendship City education exchange activities.

From May 19 to 23, 2016, a delegation of 30 teachers and students from 22 senior high schools under the Education Department of Cheju Special Autonomous Province led by Kim Zhangyung, principal of Cheju Central Girls High School of Korea visited Jiading of Shanghai at invitation, to carry out education exchange activities with the teachers and students. Zhu Yu, deputy director of the Education Bureau of Jiading District, expressed warm welcome to the visiting delegation.

School activity day, feeling the campus culture The visiting delegation of teachers and students from Cheju visited Anting and Zhongguang Senior High Schools. At Anting Senior High School, the teachers and students from Korea watched the video of the school and the performance elaborately prepared by students; the teachers and students of both parties conducted in-depth and friendly exchanges, the head of the delegation, Principal Kim Zhangyung, on behalf of Cheju Central Girls High School and Principal Zhao Ping of Anting Senior High School signed the agreement on the two school as sister exchange schools. The teachers and students of the delegation visited the school history exhibition room, classroom building and gymnasium of the school. At Zhongguang Senior High School, Principal Lu Guangyuan delivered a speech at the welcome ceremony on behalf of all teachers and students of the school, and presented on the operation of the school. The Korean teachers and students exchanged amiably with the students received them, and visited on featured courses of tea art, calligraphy and silk stocking embroidering of the school, to experience the rich campus life of Chinese students and feel the charm of the traditional culture of the Chinese nation.

Culture visiting day, feeling the charm of Jiading Jiading is a famous historical and cultural city to the south of Yangtze River, with rich humanistic and historical resources. Both the Fahua Pagoda and Confucian Temple were built in the Song Dynasty; and the Huilongtan Park, Qiuxia Garden and Guyi Garden are famous gardens to the south of Yangtze River. The ancient gardens, temples, pagodas, bridges and city walls all spread the unique charm of the ancient city. In the Confucian Temple, the teachers and students from Cheju got to know the imperial examination system of ancient China, to feel the long history of education in Jiading; in the museum, they knew the historical development and changes of Jiading, to feel the tremendous changes in society and economy of Jiading; in Huilongtan Park, they learned the method of garden landscaping, to feel the unique charm of gardens to the south of Yangtze River, and in the motor museum, they were told the development history of automobiles, to feel the charm of the modern Jiading and scientific Jiading.

Family activity day, tasting the life of Shanghai The visiting delegation also had a one-day family life feeling activity. 25 Korean students lived at homes of Jiading students, to feel the traditional culture of Shanghai families, make face-to-face exchanges with our students and their families, experience the delicious food of China, tour the landmarks of Shanghai, and feel the family life of ordinary students. In just a short day, students of both countries got acquaint, unwilling to part, and expressed their pure emotions to each other.

In the visit and exchanges, the Korean teachers and students thanked the Education Bureau and schools in Jiading District many times for providing them with opportunities to get a deep understanding of the Chinese culture and folk custom, and sincerely invited teachers and students of Jiading to Cheju for visit and study, to deepen the understanding and communications, seek cooperation in education and realize development through mutual assistance.
